Getting a genuine education was impossible and a higher education seemed like a world away. My parents never insisted or even indicated that they wanted me to continue my education after high-school. There was no money saved for college and the only mention of my future was, “Don’t have sex” and “Don’t get pregnant.” They insisted that I should concentrate on being a Jehovah’s Witness and becoming a local ministering pioneer. My teachers and classmates spoke of college and what they wanted to be when they grew-up; I was not able to place myself among their dreams.
After a rough start getting amalgamated to high school - going to nerd to Ms. Popular - I spent my eleventh and twelfth grade years studying hard, making the honor roll, joining professional student organizations, and even volunteering. In my senior year one of my teachers, Ms. Brockington, approached me about a cooperative opportunity a small law firm. She said I had been doing very well and wanted me to go on an interview. She had chosen me and one other student to attend. I was caught off guard because Ms. Brockington and I never saw eye to eye, especially during my troubled years. The day before the interview Ms. Brockington pulled me to the side and told me to wear a skirt, not pants, to the interview because the owners were old-fashioned. I know in my heart Ms. Brockington’s advice is what got me that job. Ms. Brockington gave me the chance I needed. I began working at the firm and they hired me full-time after graduation and my journey as a professional woman began.
Today, I enjoy owning and operating own company & pride's biggest sponsor, Cox Consultant and Management Firm, Inc. Each of my companies allows me to travel the world, make great friends, awesome networking, and plenty of business opportunities.
